Newsletter

The Christmas Term which kicked off few weeks ago is gradually coming to an end, your unflinching support has enabled us record great progress this far, thank you for always standing by us. It is with excitement that we bring to you the November edition of our Newsletter which highlights activities that were featured within the month and reminders on activities and events to anticipate in the coming weeks.

Fun and games
Play time as we know helps children develop key skills like collaboration, confidence and the spirit of sportsmanship. The Fun and Games event has become an integral part of our activities as a day is dedicated for this activity every term. On the said days, usually a Wednesday, learners spend more time in outdoor activities, compete among themselves, and celebrate their own wins and that of others.

Charity Day

It is with overflowing joy that we express our gratitude to you, awesome Howbury Parents, for the outpouring of compassion and love on the recently held Term 1 Charity Day. For the financial and material support, we say thank you and pray that none of you will be beneficiaries of the Charity donations. Despite requesting for just financial donations, you went out of your way to add other material items.  This outstanding support has reaffirmed to us, yet again, that we have you as an ally. In the coming weeks, we will be reaching out to some Charity organizations to support their initiatives, please look out for details of how the donations were utilized in subsequent editions of our newsletter.

Tech PEP- Supporting your child through the transition from childhood to adolescence

For the first time and in response to the reality of creating further channels to discuss key issues that are relevant to the students' age group, we hosted a Parent Education Program exclusively for the Howbury Tech parents. Our guest, Mr. Obadiah Oyetoro; an educator and a teens Coach, charged parents to become more involved in the affairs of their children and ensure nothing is left to chance. The session was highly interactive as parents and teachers alike shared their perspectives on how to handle various aspects of the child’s growth process ranging from discipline styles, family values, social interactions and the use of media.
The School Director reaffirmed the school’s position in ensuring that all students do not only receive quality in-class learning, but as well imbibe the core values as indicated in the Howbury PRIDE which is the guiding principle of all engagements.

We sincerely appreciate all parents who made time to attend this event.

Just Girls 2023- Choices and Consequences

We affirm that the Girl Child is distinct, and born with lots of potential, which, if well channeled, have the capacity to challenge norms and break parity.
Despite having these seemingly bright futures, the girl child is usually faced with lots of challenges along the way, some of which may lead to making mistakes that could mar the attainment of their life goals. It is against this backdrop that the Just Girls event was put in place as an avenue to discuss with the girls life issues they may encounter on their journey to womanhood and how to deal with each of them.
During this event, girls had the chance to ask questions, pour out their hearts and as well receive guidance on how to delineate wrong and right choices.
Our special appreciation goes to our seasoned guests; Mrs. Blessing Oladimeji and Mrs. Temitope Sawyerr, whose presence and facilitation made the program a huge success as they shared with the girls relatable insights and provided guidance. We are hopeful you will heed our call when we come calling again.

Anti bullying week 2023- November 13th -17th
Anti bullying week is a global annual celebration to raise awareness about the harmful effects of bullying and as well promote a culture of respect, inclusiveness and acceptance. It also aims to highlight ways to prevent and respond to bullying.
All through the week, teachers made use of videos, flashcards and other resources to highlight the negative effects of bullying, how not to be a bully and how to respond when you witness another person being bullied.
Wednesday was celebrated as Odd Socks Day; students wore odd socks to celebrate what makes each child unique. At the end of the week, students had great insights on the subject of bullying, they could tell when a friend is being bullied, how not to be a bully and how to report acts of bullying. We thank you for your contributions in making the week a success and look forward to working with you in building a bully free community.

Spelling Bee
The Spelling Bee features every term as we have found it helpful in fostering vast vocabulary knowledge, improving spelling and pronunciation abilities, building self confidence and developing correct English Language usage. Additionally it strengthens pupils' cognitive skills, helps them learn faster, develop fluency and as well improve their presentation skills. This term’s contest held on Thursday, November 30th, we applaud all the class representatives for the good efforts they have put in emerging as class spellers. At the end of the keenly contested event, our winners emerged as follows:
1st position:      Zoe,          Year 6 Class
2nd position:    Dora,        Year 5 Class
3rd position:     Iremide, Year 5 Class
